"I received a nice birthday present last week, a book entitled Never Go to the Hospital Alone by Steve Harden. Wow! This guy has not only written the most useful consumer healthcare resource manual I've ever read, he's written a book that's easy and fun to read. Check out the Table of Contents to get an idea of the wealth of information covered. If you get this book, my friends, you may never need the information contained in Chapter 15, The Truth About Malpractice Lawsuits. (Just sayin'.)"

The dizzying and potentially deadly advances in health care today make this book a must-read for learning what it takes to avoid fatal errors in your care.”

"Like many small business owners, I feel my employees are family.  A few months ago, the critically ill infant child of one of our employees was permanently injured by her care. If her family had had this book, the outcome surely would have been different.  That is why I have subsequently provided a copy of it to every one of our 200 employees as well as my personal family members. The comprehensive safety strategies in it will help keep your employees and loved ones safe during their inevitable trips through the health care system. You are holding in your hand the opportunity to save a life. Don’t miss it! "
–ALAN MULLEN, CEO, Crew Training International, Inc.

"As an experienced RN and legal nurse consultant for medical malpractice cases, I have seen the devastating aftermath of horrifying medical mistakes. Tragically, many of those cases could have been prevented if only the patient or their families had been more informed and aware of the potential dangers and assumed a stronger role in the safety of their care. Fortunately, Never Go to the Hospital Alone gives patients practical, easy-to-use solutions to help stop the modern epidemic of medical errors. Read it and learn what you must know about taking charge of your own safety.”

Steve uses the latest medical research to paint a clear picture of why things can go wrong in medicine and to explain in easy-to-understand language what every patient must do to stay safe. "This book is a must read and, more importantly, a must have if you need to go to the hospital.  The author details the shortcomings and dangers in our health care system and walks the reader through the steps they must take to ensure their loved ones get the safe care they need.  My wife recently underwent surgery, it was a bad experience that would have been a better one if we had known of this book.  Read this book before you need it.”

"I think your book is the greatest. I just used some of the "guides" in finding my new Internal Medicine doctor. I am sending copies to my nephews in OK who are in the medical field. One is a hospitalist in Stillwater. The other is in X-ray. Another relative is the CEO of a hospital in Louisiana and he gets one, too. GOOD JOB!!! "
—Betty Cummings, Dallas, TX

"Finally, a practical guide for consumers of hospital care. This guy knows his stuff. Harden reveals the inner workings of hospitals in layman's terms to provide a very readable resource for increasing the likelihood of a successful hospital stay and decreasing the possibility of falling victim to systemic shortcomings. Consistent quality care depends on accountability and transparency - this book is an important step toward achieving both."

"Everyone needs to read this book. This book presents clear, objective information and should be required reading for everyone who seeks health care, including healthcare providers. As a provider, I think I know what questions to ask, but when you are "in the moment", anxiety takes over. Using a checklist ensures that no critical information/question is missed. Great book -highly recommended for everyone."
—J. Kadis, Hollywood, FL

"Highly Informative - A Must Read. As someone associated with the healthcare industry for over 30 years, I highly recommend this book. It offers clear, practical advice and insight on what every person needs to know to protect themselves or a loved one seeking medical treatment. I found Chapter 9 "Nine Questions to Ask Before You Go to the Hospital" to be particularly helpful. The knowledge I gained from this book helped me formulate the right questions to ask my own doctor as well hospital. This book helps you become a more informed consumer of healthcare and gives you the tools to take control of your care when and if you are in need. I commend Steve for sharing his insider secrets in this highly informative, well written book."

"Everybody NEEDS this book for themselves or a loved one! I recommend that EVERYBODY have this book in their reference library at home for their next trip to the hospital whether it be as a patient or a patient's advocate. I am a commercial pilot and I fear hospitals and doctors. I know we live in the greatest nation on earth, and we have superior health care providers and facilities. However, there is just an innate distrust of caregivers that I think many of us have based on our own experiences or stories we've heard. When I injured my neck early in my aviation career, I was immediately offered surgery to alleviate the symptoms of pain and numbness in my arm. I denied the surgery and did the research. The type of surgery I was offered may have very well taken care of the symptoms, but it would have ended my dream of flying as a long term profession. Regulations that were in place at the time deemed the type of surgery I was offered as disqualifying for pilots. Thank God I didn't blindly follow the surgeon's advice and did the research myself! This book, "Never Go To the Hospital Alone" was not available then. I wish it was. It is an excellent guide to avoiding the pitfalls in our current medical system and is presented in an easy to follow and understand format. I armed myself with this book because my father died a few years ago of an avoidable blood clot while in hospital care and my mother is of the age that she is in and out hospitals often. If you are overwhelmed right now because of an upcoming surgery or medical condition for yourself or a loved one, I strongly suggest you get this book and refer to it often."
